THE SONG

In 1974, Charles Aznavour came out with one of my favorite albums, A Tapestry of Dreams. Several of his most famous songs were on that record, including She, The Old Fashioned Way, After Loving You, La Boheme, Yesterday When I Was Young, You've Got To Learn, and La Baraka. All of these songs were released again on his 1996 Greatest Golden Hits compact disk. You may have also heard Elvis Costello's version of She in the film, Notting Hill (starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant). The song is also on the movie soundtrack.

As I was writing my book -- which still did not have a title -- I came to a point where I needed a gentle love song...something with lyrics that fit in with the emotions Peejay was feeling at the time. I immediately thought of another song from the Tapestry of Dreams album. That song is We Can Never Know. And when I used the lyrics and reread every word, I knew the title for my book...Dream Tapestry.

Unfortunately, I haven't found the album for sale on the Internet, nor can I find the song. From time to time, I have seen the album (Tapestry of Dreams) available at an online auction site, and the song can be found in the MP3 format (which I won't link to from here for copyright reasons). It is surprising to me that the song has not appeared on another, more recent, compact disk. I had hoped to share the song with my readers so they would have an opportunity to actually hear it. If anybody finds it for sale on line at a retailer, please let me know. I would love for you all to hear We Can Never Know, and it would be even more satisfying to see the song released again.

I am sure when you read the lyrics in my novel, they will touch you as deeply as they did me.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT: I extend a special Thank You to Universal Music Publishing Group for allowing me to use the lyrics to 'We Can Never Know' in my book, DREAM TAPESTRY.
