Gen 4:25-26

(25)  And Adam knew his wife again; and she bore a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

(26)  And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

A Godly seed is born! If we examine the deeds of Abel, Cain & now Seth we can see a likeness to another familiar truth in the Bible. As Satan was created before man, so was Cain before Abel. As Satan deceived mankind with his speech and brought death upon him in the garden, so did Cain talk with his brother, and bring death upon him in the field. As Satan’s problem was rooted pride, thus was Cain’s. But now we see Seth, the seed of a Godly generation! Not only was Seth an ancestor in the flesh of Jesus Christ, but he was also a picture of Jesus Christ, in that he was the firstborn among many!! Look at the generations of Seth (For the sake of time, let’s name only a few of his descendants.) There was Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon, on down to Joseph the husband of Mary and many more between! What a Godly seed! As we see Seth as a Godly seed, we see Jesus Christ, a more Godly seed, the seed of the true Church, the Godly generation of the redeemed, which will never perish!!! Praise God!

Gen 5:1-24

(1)   This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

(2)  Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

Ref: Genesis 1:26-27 – Reference to an earlier event: What do we see here?

A.     God created man, in the likeness of God created He him

A reference to the creation of man, before the creation of woman, “created he him” Man was created in the Image of God (Gen 2:7) a perfect being. God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.

B.     Male and Female created He them (Gen 2:18-22) – God created woman with a purpose in mind – Remember In our previous study?

“Male and female created he them”. Woman was not an afterthought and should not be treated like one. Woman was also not an attempt at something better, and ought not think they to be such. What was woman’s purpose?

(Gen 2:18)  And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.

(Gen 2:21-23) And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Woman was created to be an help meet for man. Not a leader of man but a helper.

(Col 3:18)  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

(Tit 2:3-5) The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Not a slave of man, but a helper. She ought not be abused by man, but loved as “bone of his bones”.

(Eph 5:25)  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

(Col 3:19)  Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Hence if a man loves his own body, he ought to love his wife with the same magnitude of love. That was God’s intended purpose when He took man’s rib to make a woman.

Summed up in one verse:

(Eph 5:33)  Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

C.     Called their name Adam (the first reference to Adam and Eve both being called by Adam’s name.) This is where we get our custom today of the woman taking the name of her husband when they are joined. There are some people who do not hold fast to that tradition, wives keep their maiden names for professional reasons, or even in a smaller sect the man takes the woman’s name. This is merely defiance of God’s natural order of things.

The woman taking on the man’s name is a picture of those who come to Christ (The redeemed) and take on his name (Christians). In Revelation 21, New Jerusalem is referred to as the “Bride” of Christ. Those written in the Lambs book of life will enter into that city, where nothing can enter in that defileth!!

(3)  And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

Adam Begat a son in his image and likeness, which is the image and likeness of God, whose image we are. No evolution there!

(4)  And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

Adam and Eve had other children, sons and daughters. We will notice as we read the scriptures, that this phrase is repeated throughout the genealogies: “and he begat sons and daughters”. These sons and daughters are never named because they are not relevant. We are given the names of those who were significant, those who either were in the bloodline of Christ or somehow affected those in the bloodline of Christ. After all, The Old Testament is a looking ahead to Christ. Had it included all of the names of every living person, it would not be able to be contained.

(5)  And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

(Note: Adam lived 930 years. As we read through the Bible, there was never a man who lived 1000 years. They all died before they reached it. There is some speculation as to that being a reference to God telling Adam that he would die in the day that he ate of the tree of knowledge – …a day is as a thousand years… However, that is merely speculation.)

(6)  And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:

(7)  And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:

(8)  And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.

(9)  And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:

(10)                      And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:

(11)                       And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

(12)                       And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel:

(13)                       And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:

(14)                      And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.

(15)                       And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:

(16)                       And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:

(17)                       And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.

(18)                       And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:

(19)                       And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

(20)                      And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.

(21)                       And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:

(22)                      And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

(23)                      And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

(24)                      And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

God Took Enoch! Enoch was a faithful man of God. He was the first man recorded in the Bible to not taste death (There was only one other recorded who did not taste death, Elijah).  Enoch was a picture of the rapture, he walked with God and he was not, for God took him. There was no whirlwind recorded here, there was no chariot, no ascension, he just was not! He vanished, just as we, the redeemed who are alive will vanish at the appointed time!

1Th 4:13-18

(13)  But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

(14)  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

(15)  For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

(16)  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

(17)  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

(18)  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
