Antoine* Crispel (M)

     Antoine* Crispel was born in 1635 at Artois, France; near the border with Belgium.1 He married Marie* Blanchan, daughter of Matthew Blanchan and Magdalena Brissen Jorisse, on 31 January 1660 at Mannheim, Germany. Antoine* Crispel married Petronella LeMan circa 1680. Antoine* Crispel died before 10 June 1708.
     Antoine* Crispel emigrated on 27 April 1660 on the ship "Gilded Otter." He prepared a will on 6 November 1707 at Ulster Co., NY, that was proved 10 Jun 1708. "During the 17th Century, long and devastating wars were fought; many of the inhabitants were forced to flee from their fertile and productive farms. Antoine, a young farmer, went to Mannheim in the Lower Palitinate. There he married and sailed on the 'Gilded Otter' to New Amsterdam on 27 Apr 1660. Upon arrival they immediately moved to Esopus in Ulster County, NY. They later settled in Hurley. In 1663, there was an Indian uprising and his wife and an infant daughter were captured; they were soon rescued."
