     Marguerite Pitcairn was born on 7 February 1897 at New York, New York Co., NY.1,2 She was the daughter of Joseph A. Pitcairn and Mary O. Mahoney. Marguerite Pitcairn married Arthur Francis Sullivan on 15 February 1930 at New York, New York Co., NY.1,2 Marguerite Pitcairn died on 6 October 1970 at St.John's Hospital, Santa Monica, CA, at age 73; Stroke, with 2-year aftermath including a broken hip.1,2
     A quiet person, with a cool but friendly disposition. Avid reader, typically 3 - 5 books a week. A definite loner. Separated from my father about 1-1/2-years after their marriage. Never reconciled; but never divorced or legally separated either. Altough she had no use for, or interest in, the family 'farm' (too isolated, too crude, too lonely) in Stanfordville, Dutchess County NY, she opened it up every summer to please me. . . until I graduated from WPI and moved to the West Coast. After Rachael Pitcairn's (her father's sister) death in 1939, she moved to 2122 Valentine Avenue in the Bronx (from an apartment on Kingsbridge Rd). She remained there with Arthur Jr. until she sold the Stanfordville Hours and moved to Santa Monica to be with Arthur and his then wife Mary Ward. Until retirement, she routinely walked (1.4 miles, each way) to her job at PS 92 on Arthur Avenue - rain, snow or shine.

She worked for the US Govt on Governor's Island for several years and became a Teacher/Clerk in NYC Schools on 2/1/1922. Her first job paid $6 per week. She retired from NYC Schools in 1961 (appx). Generally healthy, she developed hardening of the arteries in the late 60's. The immediate cause of death was cadiac arrest; 5d acute myocardial infarction; generalized arteriosclerosis. While she had some arthritis, still she was very active. She was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson, Los Angeles, CA in Grave 141, tier 16, Sect. V.

     [Hull.FTW] [SULLIV-2.GED] Arthur Sullivan II has childhood memories of a stern authoritarian figure (was an NYC school teacher) - but she died when he was about 7 yrs old (on Labor day, at Stanfordville on the couch in the living room). At the time of her death she was living with Marguerite and me right next to my school Pal from nearby farm, two yearl older Taylor (Brother) Johnson said that she'd come back to haunt me while we sat in his hayloft that night!

     Robert B. Pitcairn was employed as policeman.5 As of 1890, Robert B. Pitcairn lived at 93 Perry Street, New York, New York Co., NY.5 [Hull.FTW] [SULLIV-2.GED] I have considerable correspondence to and from Robert B. Pitcairn, period 1880 1890 regarding his invention of a fountain pen. A patent was awarded; but it appears that he was earlier informed that there was little new art in his idea - and it evidently went nowhere. At that time his address was 93 Perry St. NYC.
