Europe in Our Time: A History, 1945-1992
If you've struggled with boring history books, Laqueur's treatment of post-war Europe will surprise you. Writng in the page-turning style of a good novel, the author highlights the events that have shaped contemporary western Europe since VE Day. I came upon this book searching for a suitable text for the DANTES DSST SE-465 Contemporary Western Europe, and I had to have it. While the book probably goes into more detail than is absolutely required to pass the exam, there is nothing wrong with thorough preparation. You might even develop an interest in history for it's own sake. Europe Since 1945 (The Short Oxford History of Europe)Half as long as Laqueur's Europe in Our Time (I suppose that could be an advantage) Europe Since 1945 is equally appropriate for the Contemporary Western Europe exam. I haven't read it, so that's about all I have to say on the subject. Modern European HistoryIf you just want to pass the DANTES Contemporary Western Europe exam, this could be the "exam-cram" book for you. Chapters 35-40 apply to the period in question, and are probably a sufficient review for the test, if you already have a fair grasp of the material. This is a very popular book, especially with the AP History crowd. | |||||
