The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is administered by The College Board, and is used by many colleges as part of their admissions process. Most schools require either the SAT or the ACT as part of their admissions process. Note that it is their choice. For example, "College A" requires SAT scores while "University B" demands ACT scores. Hardly anybody will accept whichever test you happened to take. The safest thing to do is to take both.
The SAT exams have changed because the post-"No Child Left Behind" emphasis on standardized test-taking has skewed the results of the "old" test and made them less reliable. The new "SAT II" test includes two new sections - writing, and critical reading -with which students taking the test should be familiar: If there was ever a time for some advanced preparation for the SAT, this is it!
