UNIX® is a registered trademark, but the POSIX API is the same across all "flavors," as is the Single UNIX Specification (SUS). There are also API's within *NIX, e.g. "sockets," so if you can divine what Amazon was thinking when they created this category, maybe you can find the books you're looking for. The best bet is that anything with "UNIX®" OR "API" in the title is here. You may also be more interested in the *NIX Operating System

Recommended The UNIX Programming Environment - Kernighan & Pike is to UNIX® programming as The C Progamming Language is to C. Not necessarily the most accessable treatment, but certainly authoritative, and a reference any serious UNIX® programmer will want in their library. The Art of UNIX Programming -Is an overview of the UNIX® philosophy by its originators, compiled and edited by Eric Raymond. Not a big source of code examples. UNIX Internals: The New Frontiers -As the name implies, digs a little deeper than the *NIX API to include the actual workings of the OS. Good coverage of the main *NIX "flavors." A new version is scheduled for Feb. 2006. | ||||||
