Browse Amazon Books: LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)

LAMP is an acronym for Linux - Apache - MySQL - PHP. Although Amazon doesn't have a category for LAMP, they do have categories for each of the component technologies. Taken together, they comprise an extremely capable and robust web-server platform. Because these components are open-source (free) they make for an extremely cost-effective solution, which is widely in use. Support for the open source components of LAMP is excellent, although it takes a different form than commercial tech support.

Other "flavors" of *NIX can be substituted for Linux, notably BSD

  • OnLAMP -

O'Reilly Books has established a clearinghouse for LAMP information as good as any on the web. Although you will find links to related O'Reilly books, they are not obtrusive. In fact you may sometimes have to dig a little too hard for them.

  • XAMPP-

A "complete" LAMP development environment for several OSs (including Windoze). Allows you to work on content before completely solving the mysteries of web-server setup and administration.

  • WAMPSERVER -

Is another LAMP development platform for windows that some prefer over XAMPP. Haven't gotten into either enough to make a recommendation.
