Autumn Days

I sit on the grassy hillside,
Watching the reddening sun dip below the horizon.
A cool breeze gently whisks my hair into my face,
Tickling my nose.
I pull my jacket closer to my body,
And I wonder.

I sigh and lie on the gently browning grass.
The nature everywhere reminds me of you.
I wonder.
When autumn passes and gives way to winter,
Will you still remember me?

As the first stars appear, I glance into heaven's countenance,
And I see your bright eyes,
Mirrored in the envious firmament.
I smile a coy smile, and I think,
Its beauty could never compare to yours.

I watch as the days grow shorter
And the leaves fall from their branches.
I inhale the cinnamon fragrance of the fall
And I smile.
For although spring and summer must give way to autumn and winter,
You, my love, are eternal.
