Prisoner
Style inspired by the works of Emily Dickenson

The heart lies beaten - chained and bound -
The Mind - He alone holds the key
Yet smiles so evilly - sweetly - innocently
Ignoring the young child's plea.

Oh cursed Mind - I beseech of thee
The freedom of your Captor
One so - seemingly - naive and innocent
Deserves a life of Rapture.

Your cruel and insensitive will
Refuses to set her free -
You instead clip the white dove's wings
And deny her own Eternity.

Yet as the Mind beats his frightened prisoner,
He, too, remains a slave -
Bowing cordially and kissing her feet
At the hand of Society's glaive.
