Soulmates

From the very beginning of time,
Our souls were together.
We followed each other from lifetime to lifetime.
We were never alone,
For we always had each other.

Why should this life be any different?
Why must we be together only in passing?
Why can't we be lovers?
Why must we abide by the rules of society?
Why can't we share this lifetime?

But I know this life is different.
We must distant ourselves, for our own sake.
We can never share a fateful kiss.
We can never rendezvouz under the moonlit night.

But for you, I'll wait.
We can't meet this time.
But absence shall make our hearts grow fonder,
And next time, we will begin anew.
