Evil Eye (717)

717 - We're looking to do something with this spell, this likely will not be around mandatory reallocation or even shortly after. It is a low priority at this point.
Nilven's Impressions (in response to questions), January 31, 2003
Well, I was under the impression that most sorcerers don't get
any use out of it since it's rather difficult to get the warding needed to even
make critters run away for good, much less the death warding. Which is good,
because any spell that causes instant death should have a relatively
high-warding requirement but I've never really been able to use it on
like-leveled creatures with a few notable exceptions (one of them very notable,
any 60ish sorcerers know what I mean). I love the spell but several have posted
that they don't get any use out of it. I don't know what others' experiences
are, so let me know.

I love the spell as well. I'd really hate to see it go. If I were to tweak it,
I'd add the "drops all their crap" feature ala an Empath spell that
does a similar thing. We already have two other spells that leave us with no
corpse and no stuff, I'd like to see this aspect go from Evil Eye.
I'd also like to see the ability to force an effect. In other words, at various
wardings, the critter either sits there in fear, runs to the next room, drops
their weapons and runs to the next room, runs away never to be seen, and drops
dead on the spot. I'd like to be able to say, pick "sits there in
fear" and if I ward high enough, I get that effect, even if I ward higher
than the threshold for the next effect.
I love the Remote Evil Eye capability too. You definately need to look at the
code, though. It's buggy and sometimes takes on the CS of the first critter you
hit, occaisionally doesn't work at all.
Please don't can this spell. It's one of my favorites.

In response to a post asking that Stance be affected
I agree, forcing stance would be a
great little addition to Evil Eye.
Currently my ideas are for 717:
Lower endroll for effects *except* death.
Get rid of the critter running to another room.
Make different effects useful - such as stance changing, stunning (I think 717,
being a high lvl spell should provide the highest stun possible), making the
critter kneel, drop its weapons.
On the death crit - it drops ALL its gear not just what it has in its hand, like
the Empath spell.
Get rid of You Gesture at >target<. Just make it You Stare at
>target<
I'd really like this to be pushed as an auxillary spell in regards to FI, over a
pure hunting spell. It would stun and knock down a critter preparing it for
Implode.
