The Path of the Faendryl
IX. ‘Sorcery’ among the Lesser Races, and Present Day
Throughout the centuries, some Faendryl decided to move through the world, leaving Maelshyve, and later New Ta’Faendryl, from time to time, and it was through these excursions that small bits of their lore came to be known by the outside races. It is also believed that scraps of lore carelessly abandoned by the a’Niall Dhu’nari were discovered by the lesser races. These peoples, without the true understanding of the Way, do not see the full scope of the Art, and these cobbled bits have collectively become known to them as Sorcery. Tales of ‘Sorcery’ have long returned to the Faendryl, who have, until recently, allowed these practitioners to believe of the Art as they will.
The Faendryl have begun to again slowly venture forth into the world they so long ago left behind. They remain a mystery to most of the outside races, who know almost nothing of them other than what the Elves have told them. Even the Elves they once called kin look upon their return with trepidation, for they worry what that return might bring.
Their return also brought to the Faendryl a reminder of their distant past, and memories of the words of Liriasha. The a’Niall Dhu’nari have also returned to the world, still bearing the taint of Ivaryn. The old contention is new again, and their darkness perpetuates, but in a twist, they expect the other races to bow before them as Ivaryn wished them to bow before the dark Arkati. Where the Faendryl understand that the Way of Light and the power of the true Elven Spirit can bring them to ultimate power, the a’Niall Dhu’nari seek to gain it by standing upon the broken husks of the lesser races.
Still, they are in some ways to be more respected than those who loudly proclaim themselves Elves, for, while perverted, they have come to some strength of being, no longer the children they were when they left. Perhaps they will one day escape the Curse of Ivaryn and turn from their darkness.
The a’Niall Dhu’nari seem to expect others to fear them, as Ivaryn expected the Elves to fear. Others do, but the a’Niall Dhu’nari still do not understand the strength of the true Elven spirit that holds the Faendryl above all others. They remain Lost, as are all the once-Elven people, but the Faendryl yet hope for their return and the return of all the Elven people to the strength of spirit and the Way of Light. The Faendryl wait with open arms, the Empire ready to accept all its children should they return.
And as always, the Faendryl listen, and prepare, in case the voice of Liriasha is heard again, and the might of the Faendryl is once more needed to preserve the world.
