The Point of Little Return (Casting Strength)
The GM Team for Wizards and Sorcerers:
Nilven, Nitid, Uliq
(Taken from the Sorcerer's Forum held by GM Romulus on Feb. 27, 1998)
Romulus says, "Karhl says, ' Some have suggested that sorcerers be given access to lower level Major (closed) spell circles, in exchange for having no access to upper level Minor (open) list spells. As this would also serve to reduce sorcerer defenses, has this suggestion been given any consideration? If not, why not? Also, with stance affecting CS, how will this work with our current stanced based curses? Will the increased CS simply not be available for some curses?'"
Romulus says, "Initially, that was the plan from what I recall."
Romulus says, "The part about access to the first 10 spells on the Major list was the original plan I believe. But it seems that plan was lost several years ago."
Romulus smiles. . Romulus says, "I have never heard anything about losing access to the upper minor list."
Romulus says, "The way the base code system is set up though, there are only three spell fields available."
Romulus says, "To change to a system like that would require a change in the actual player data fields and in the base code that runs the game. I don't think that kind of change will happen."

(NOTE: We now have runestaves! We are still waiting on the tomes though)
Prestuis says, "I'm not asking for answers, merely speaking what's on a lot of folks minds"
Prestius nods to Khaladon.
Khaladon says, "I really agree with you Prestius, eventually, I'd like to see a staff in one hand, and a magical tome in the other."
Prestius exclaims, "Exactly!"
Khaladon says, "But that very long term"
Prestius removes a weathered leatherbound tome from in his
bone-clasped bag.
Prestius drums his fingers on his leatherbound tome, lost in thought.
Prestius taps the tip of his maoral staff on the ground.
Khaladon says, "but several of us talking about it"
Khaladon says, "we've talked to Warden"
Khaladon says, "Its not an any soon list, or even the mid list"
Khaladon says, "but its a project I'd like to see happen"
(Taken from the Sorcerer Discussion Meeting with Khaladon, March 28, 2001)
Khaladon says, "We added charity bins for wand donations to the less fortunate in each guild"
Khaladon says, "try and keep them filled, or get ranger friends to make them and imbed them"

-------------------------------------
What's it all mean? After training in sorcery spells up to 20 levels over
your head, anything else will bring sharply reduced benefits. You can get +15 CS
fairly easily by tripling 20 times. Past that for most people, it won't be worth
the additional .166 CS per spell to learn 700 spells instead of 400s until
they're at least level 134. Even for hardcore triplers, once you've gotten 60
spells above your level and gained 35 CS over a doubler, for anything beyond 60
you'd be better off training in a minor circle for the CS gain it gives you in
your sorcery circle.
If you want to triple, go right ahead. 15 CS for 800 MTPs isn't that much of a
drop from the 20 CS you'd get before. Anything above that and you hit
diminishing returns in a hard way.
