32nd Class Reunion

The only difference between 49 and 50 is AARP and Senior Citizen discounts.”  This is one of the many comments made during the Decatur High School 32nd reunion for the Class of 1972.  Class members gathered on July 17th at the home of Gay and Mark Maloney to jointly celebrate their 50th birthdays. Appropriately, the Maloney home has a view of Decatur High School across from Delano park.  The weekend party began with class members gathering on Friday evening at the Hard Dock Cafe.

Saturday morning was reunion central at the Maloney home as class members gathered to setup and decorate.  Gay Blackburn Maloney , a 1972 class member, turned the carriage house in to the party house with memorabilia upstairs and drinks downstairs.  A large tent in the backyard offered shelter for Tony Mason, entertainment for the evening, and class members during a brief summer shower.  Lucianna Wood Warren and Sherry Gleason Dowling manned the registration table and gave out fans that include each class member’s senior pictures.  The fans helped ease the heat and provided a little comedy for “remember me.”  Name tags in large print also included the class member’s senior picture.  Alan Swafford parked his 1973 yellow convertible Mustang in the front driveway.  Comments about Alan’s driving then and now were overheard as class members gathered around the Mustang for a group picture.  Later in the evening birthday cake was served.  The cake was decorated with the 1972 school logo.  The Class of 1972 reunion was so much fun the class decided to meet again in 3 years for its 35th Reunion .  Memories were shared and old stories revisited and a few were told for the first time.  Andy Corneil delivered Senior Prom picture to Beverly Crosswhite – 32 years later.
Gay Blackburn Maloney and Beverly Crosswhite led the reunion committee.  Committee members Barbie Eaken Allen, Mary Alice Crider Allen, Katherine McLaughlin Johnson, Linda McNalley Burnett and Lindy Webb Smith put in many hours of work.  The reunion committee thanks Alan Swafford , Haynes Smith, Mark Maloney and Mike Burnett for their help and support in making the party a success.
