Canal Boating

Canal Boating in the United Kingdom

In June 1999 the Bell family packed up for a three week visit to the U.K. during which time we visited our relatives and toured the northern parts of Wales and England by canal boat.  Having enjoyed this first canal boating experience so well, we returned twice again first in June of 2001 and 2005.  We hope you enjoy a few pictures from our trips!

• The Good Ships Douglas, our home away from home in June of 1999, the Silver Vale (2001) and also the Silver Spirit (2005).
• Locking through locks - a way to go up and down over vertical terrain.
• Harecastle tunnel - a humbling experience
• Bridges and such - they cross over the canals, some are fixed structures, some raise, some swing
• Aqueducts - cross the canal over obstacles such as roads, rivers, and small valleys
• Sights along the canal way - provide a cruising break and an opportunity to experience the culture
