DAMSELFLIES OF NORTH AMERICA 2nd edition
by Minter J. Westfall, Jr., and Michael L. May, (revised by Mike May).
550pp. Scientific Publishers. 2006. Color supplement, 2007.

Abstract

The first monographic treatment of the smaller Odonata, the damselflies, of North America, including northern Mexico and the West Indies, covers 161 species. Keys to species and precise descriptions allow identification of all adults and larvae of these important aquatic insects. Written by two well-known experts, this work is the companion volume to a similar book on the dragonflies of North America, by Needham and Westfall. Numerous illustrations are included, plus 8 pages of color plates. The work includes a checklist to species, an extensive bibliography, glossary and index.

2nd edition:

The original text from 1996 is revised, with new distribution data, corrected keys, and the addition of 2 Mexican species newly recorded for the region, plus added figures for these species. The page format is altered to conserve space better, thus saving over 100 pages of text and keeping the book cost down, but the size of the pages remains the same at 7 x 10 inches. Publisher’s Price $95.00

Supplementary companion volumn with color plates:

Newly added is a supplemental volume of color plates illustrating all 163 damselfly species for North America with photos taken in nature. This second part to the new edition contains 156 pages with 104 color plates. Part 2 will be sold separately for those wanting to add it to their copy of the first text edition, while a discount price package will be available for those purchasing the entire 2-volume set of the new edition. Publisher’s price $120
