INSTALLING THE BACKING PLATES The easy way would be to drill the center 5/8 inch hole first. Using the bolt and ball, attach the plate to the outside of the car without the backing plate behind it. And then align everything to the vertical position. If you are installing a pinned set, the mount fits the plates only one way even though the difference is small. So insure that the plate is turned the right way for the Ball mount and that it will come out in the vertical position. Once everything is located and secured you can drill thru the Holes in the aluminum plate to locate the holes on the auto. Just Be sure that nothing moves while doing this. To be safe you can Stick a bolt thru the first hole you drill before drilling the rest. To insure that the ball mount does not slip, it is important that the locking bolt on the ball halves is really tight. That's what binds the metal together. I mean really tight for the bigger antennas'. Put some leverage on that allen wrench ( use a box wrench or something to extend the handle) and really lock it down. The solid metal and extra long threads make it strong enough to Tighten to the max with no worry. |
