Dijkstra is a Keeshond (pronounce ¤), a Dutch breed. His AKC name is "Dijkstra Bliksembespringer" which means "Dijkstra lightning-pouncer". "dijk" in Dutch means "dike" in English.
The famous Keeshond, Dijkstra, is named for the famous Dutch computer scientist, Edsger Dijkstra ¤, (1930-2002). Edsger Dijkstra wrote the famous letter to the editor "Go To Statement Considered Harmful" ¤ in Communications of the ACM ¤, Vol. 11, No. 3, March 1968, pp. 147-148.
Dijkstra was born on Saturday, February 22, 2003 in Buhl, Alabama (map) ¤, about 10 miles west of Tuscaloosa ¤. He came home on Monday, May 5, 2003 (which was five days before Buddha's birthday ¤).
