Ashley
graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a B.A. in Music
and Psychology (Summa Cum Laude). She received the UAH David Lee Wells
Memorial Scholarship in music. While at UAH, Ashley was on the Dean's List and
a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She has studied classical voice
under Vivienne Atkins, Ginger Beazley, Patricia Havranek (Indiana University),
Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano, Ariel Bybee, and Charlotte Regni (UAH).
She performed in the role of one of the angels (Virtue) in a professional production
of "Anything Goes" in New York City, and served as dance captain.
While in NYC, she was awarded a scholarship to the Broadway
Dance Center. In the summer of 2001, Ashley received a scholarship
to the prestegious School at Jacob's
Pillow, where she participated in "Cultural Traditions: The Breath of Africa"
workshop. Attended the ImpulsTanz 2003 Festival in Vienna, Austria; attending
classes by David Dorfman (Moving with Momentum: momentum, partnering and power),
and Lisa Race (Upside Down/Right Side Up: effortlessbly suspended and up-end
the body in space)
Ashley’s other dance and acting credits include diverse roles with Huntsville Community Ballet Association (The Nutcracker, Graduation Ball, and Sleeping Beauty), Dance Theatre of Huntsville, Fantasy Playhouse ("A Christmas Carol", "Dorothy Meets Alice"), Lee Lyric Theatre ("Big River", "Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Pippin"), Indiana University Theatre ("Anything Goes"), productions with Birmingham’s SUMMERFEST ("Bye Bye Birdie", "Oliver", "Fiddler On the Roof", "The King and I", "Damn Yankees"), Independent Musical Productions ("Sweeney Todd", and " A Chorus Line" - for which she received a Wings Award nomination for her role as Diana Morales). She performed the role of seven-year old Tina Denmark in "Ruthless! The Musical," produced by Theatre ‘Round the Corner. In July of 2000, she was choreographer and musical director for "School House Rock - Jr." (an all childrens' production) for the Madison Children's Theatre. Her most recent theatrical roles were the lead in "Peter Pan", and Lusia in "The Fantasticks" for Ketchikan’s community theatre, the First City Players.
Ashley received her MFA in dance at Sarah Lawrence College in 2007. She has created a new work with The A.O. Movement Collective, based out of Washington, DC (performed on Aug 11-12 at the Jack Guidone Theater). She has been awarded a coveted residency at the experimental dance venue Dance Theater Workshop in Chelsea. (Her first show will be in May.)
