Fall Semester 2002

Instructions for Writing Assignment #1

Reading #1:

  1. All assignments must be typed (or computer generated).  No Exceptions!
  2. All assignments must be double-spaced.  Use only 12 for the font size.
  3. All assignments must have one inch margins all the way around on all pages.  These will be checked, so make sure you set the margins correctly.
  4. Written responses must be limited to 6 pages. (Excluding a cover page)
  5. All assignments must be in black and white.  Do use colored font or any special styles.
  6. Spell check and grammar check all assignments.

Answer each question in an essay style. The answers can be short, but you must answer the question.  Grammar and spelling will count.  Think about your answer and answer completely.

If you use quotes from the reading to make a point, you must indicate the page number that the quote appears in the original reading.  If you use outside references, you must use some approved style format (ASA, APA, etc.) in the body of the paper and provide a list of references.  Do not plagiarize the work (meaning do use another author’s work without providing the proper citation).  Plagiarized work will receive a zero.

Grading for the assignment will be based on your work, not a comparison of answers from the class.  Meaning your work will not be compared to the other students in the class; each will be judged based on your work.

Do your own work!  Any copying of papers will result in a zero for the work.

I have read these articles, so please read them and think about your answers.  I will know if you have not read the articles.  Think about the assignment carefully and answer in complete, coherent sentences.  This is a writing assignment, not just brief, short answers to questions on a test.  You cannot answer these questions in one or two paragraphs!

Due date for the assignment will be announced in class.  Ten points will be deducted for each class period that the assignment is late for the first week.  Only documented excused absences will be accepted.
