To subscribe to these lists follow the directions below. Please be aware that some of these are VERY busy lists and I *highly* recommend that as soon as the list server confirms you are a member that you send the command to receive your messages in the DIGEST form! You will get a message from the list server explaining the commands.
If you choose to get the Digest you CANNOT use the REPLY button in your mail software. To send messages to the List you will need to create a NEW message using the Mail List address. This can be good, as it helps prevent you from accidentally sending private messages to the whole list! The Digest will also keep you from getting literally HUNDREDS of individual messages - instead you will get several large messages with the individual messages collected together.
Mail lists can be fun and informative, and sometimes frustrating! I recommend that you "lurk" (just read and don't answer) for a couple of weeks or a month to get a "feel" for the community you have joined. Remember, each list has it's own "culture" and rules, and when you read a message or send a message to the list, EVERYONE on the list will see the same message.
Read the WELCOME message from the server carefully, it has lots of good information about rules and commands. SAVE IT for future reference!
And PLEASE, if you are going to be away from your computer for a while - send a NOMAIL message to EVERY list server. This will prevent your mail system from filling up and sending MANY "undeliverable" messages back to the list server. These "undeliverable" messages must be dealt with manually by the list owner and they are VOLUNTEERS whose time is just as valuable as YOURS!
