Wilbur E. "Wib" Doty
Wilbur E. "Wib" Doty, 80 Evansville, Ind., formerly of Mt. Carmel, (IL), died July 18, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He was born Oct 9, 1919, in Wabash County, the son of Arch and Elsie (Gabbert) Doty.
Mr. Doty was a W.W.II Navy veteran. A member of the Church of Christ in Mt. Carmel. He worked for the former Sunnyside Motors in parts department and drive a school bus for District 348 for several years.
Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Rigg Doty, of Evansville; a son, Lindell R. (Gloria) Doty, Warner Robins, GA; two daughters, Sherry (Sam Trippiedi, Evansville; and Donna Paris, Evansville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Verl and Phillip Doty; three sisters, Lucille Groff, Marjorie Sutton and Hazel Dodson and a granddaughter, Amy Sizemore.
Graveside service will be 11 am. Friday, July 21, 2000, in Adams Corner Cemetery (Mt Carmel IL).
Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 pm at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of the Lung Association.
Elsie M. Doty
Mrs. Elsie M. Doty, 83, who formerly lived at 202 West Tenth Street, Mt. Carmel, a resident of Wabash Nursing Home, died at the Wabash General Hospital Monday, February 3, 1975. She had been in ill health for the past week.
She was born August 1, 1891, in Owensboro, Indiana, the daughter of George William and Sarah Margaret Seals Gabbert. She was a resident of Wabash County most of her life.
On September 14, 1911, she was married to Archie Doty, in Albion, IL and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Verl Doty; three brothers, John Ross Gabbert, Willie Gabbert, and Lonnie Gabbert; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Fritsh, Mrs. Dessie Mobley, Mrs. Kathryn Farley and Mrs. Georgia Westerfield; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Surviving are five children, Mrs. Lucille Groff, RR No 2, Mt Carmel, Mrs. Hazel Dodson, Warseka, IL, Wilbur Doty, RR No 2, Mt Carmel IL and Phillip Doty, Kankakee, IL., eighteen grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Mrs. Doty was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm from the Roy D. Short Memorial Chapel, with Brother Loyal Hall and Brother Bob Adams officiating.
Interment will be in Highland Memorial (Mt. Carmel, IL)
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6:00 pm today.
Another obit adds..."Music was provided by Mrs. Carol Macer, Mrs. Garnet Stoltz, Mrs. Kathryn Eggebrecht, Mrs. Bernadine Horrall, Mrs. Jean Thread, Doug Rayborn and Bernard Seals.
Pallbearers were Jim Dodson, William Groff, Larry Groff, Lindell Doty, Robert Deisher and Jerry Deisher. Omitted from the obituary of Mrs. Doty were her brother, Manuel Gabbert, Mt. Carmel and sister, Mrs. Mary Wright, Huntington Beach, California.
Willis Doty Dies at Amboy, Ill, Funeral Held There Last Thursday
Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 pm at Amboy, Ill, for Willis Doty, 62, who passed away Dec 9, 1946, at K.S.B. Hospital. Rev. Norman C. Miller, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated and burial was in Prairie Repose cemetery.
He entered the hospital Oct 23 for surgery and passed away Dec 9, 10:30 am.
Willis, a native of West Salem, was born in the vicinity of Sainsville where he grew to manhood. He left West Salem in 1916 and lived in Minonk, Il., until 1942, when he went to Amboy, Il., and followed his trade, being a cook in the Amboy Cafe, until the time he entered the hospital.
Willis was born Mar 14, 1883, the son of Stephen and Louisa Byford Doty. His father, mother, one brother and three sisters preceded him. He has three brothers living, Harland of Mt Carmel, Ill., and Will and Elmer of West Salem. Elmer went there last Tuesday to make funeral arrangements.
Harland Doty Is Taken By Death
Harland J. Doty, 83, (b. 6 Nov 1867, d. 6 Mar 1951) Mount Carmel Route Three, living in Lick Prairie, died today at 12:30 o'clock. He had been ill for about two weeks.
Surviving are his wife, three sons and three daughters.
Funeral plans were not made today, but will be announced later.
Mrs. Eva (Whitaker) Doty, 83, (b. 9 Mar 1872, d. 13 Nov 1955) died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ira Fischer, Route 4 (9 March 1955).
Mrs. Doty is survived by six children, Archie Doty of Route 4, Mrs. bessie McGregor of Olney, Mrs. Tressie Stoltz, of Route 1, Mrs Elsie Fischer of Route 4, Austin Doty of Route 1 and Arthur Doty of Yakima, Wash. Her husband, Harlan, and two children preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday from the King Funeral Home in West Salem. Burial will be in Shiloh (cemetery).
Josie Doty
Josie Doty, 84, of West Salem passed away July 3 (1973) at the Golden Acres Care Home in West Salem. She was the widow of Elmer Doty. Survivors include several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the King and Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem, Bro. William Reed of Olney officiating. Interment was in the Shiloh cemetery, southwest of West Salem.
Elmer Doty of West Salem dies
Elmer Doty, 73, (born 5 July 1886, died 26 Oct 1957) widely known West Salem autioneer, Democratic leader and an active member of the American Legion, died at the Veterans' Hospital at Marion Saturday at five pm. He is survived by his wife Josie.
Mr. Doty was well known among veterans of World War I in the county and had held offices in the West Salem post as well as the county Legion organization.
