Our weapons are designed for full contact, full force weapon sparring. They are designed for Rennaisance and Medieval European Martial Arts, but are also suitible for full contact weapon sparring in Eastern Martial Arts, including: aikido, iaido, judo, jujitsu (jujutsu), karate, krav maga, kung-fu, tai chi, tae kwon do, and hapkido; as well as for SCA Boffer, and LARP (check specific LARP group for weapon rules). They are made of closed cell foam padding, open cell foam padding, duct tape, electrical tape, and a 1/2" or 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC pipe core.

ARE YOU READY TO TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL?

Playing with ultralight boffers is a safe, harmless pastime which is inclusive, easy to master and plenty of fun for the whole family. But if you are one of the few people who feels the need to grow beyond 'sword tag' with flimsy, featherweight weapons, and wish to learn something of the authentic martial arts heritage of medieval and rennaisance Europe, you will need weapons which are as realistic as possible while still being safe to use. After all, as the man says, "Play Swords make for Play Swordsmen"

Pytheas Production sparring weapons are superior to ordinary boffers for a variety of reasons:

EDGE GEOMETRY

Unlike ordinary boffers, our weapons are flat, not round or tube shaped. They are designed with discernable striking edges. Not only does this make our weapons look a little better, but more importnatly it makes them handle much more like a real blade, with striking surfaces allowing the user to learn to strike with the edge.

DESIGN REALSIM

Edge Geometry is just one aspect of the realism which goes into the design of our weapons. Each of our sparring weapons are based directly on an actual Historical weapon. The weight, length, guards, and balance point are all identical to that original.

As a result, our weapons feel 'real' in your hand, they have a life of their own. This is a key factor for anyone interested in taking thier swordsmanship to the next level.

STRENGTH AND DURABILITY

Some boffers rattle, some boffers whip like switches, and most tear apart frequently. Not these wepaons! Pytheas productions sparring weapons are tight, stiff, and so strong, you can beat a door down with one. (I know this, because I once did beat a door down with one.)
