Skyward

I met a man
walking the streets, alone and dirty, unkempt
he called out to me "here child, take my hand,
make an old man happy and walk with me awhile"
the smile in his eyes made my heart ache
for, i was not as happy as he
we walked in silence for blocks on end
when we approached the last corner, he said to me
"a kind face, distant eyes...do not despair my child,
for, you are whole"
i did not know what that meant, but he disappeared
before i could ask
alone and scared, i walked back the way i had come
i saw a child, she whispered these words to me
soft as a butterfly:
"your eyes carry wisdom, where mine carry tears
do not fear, you are not alone.  You are whole"
the child disappeared before my eyes
i walked on and came across a small bird
with a broken wing
as i reached for the creature,
he chirped and flew away
his wing healed
puzzled and still scared
i escaped to the sanctity of my bed
and began to dream
i saw a field where wildflowers obsessed
and tall grass blew in the breeze
i heard the trickle of a brook
and looked skyward
the bird was there and singing merrily
the old man and child walked up beside me
each taking my hand
the clouds opened up and i could see the most radiant light
colors became tangible
and the breeze seemed to blow through me
when i woke, i knew that i had experienced heaven
on the day of my death, i was not afraid
but overjoyed
for, i was truly one of His chosen
do not mourn for me
for, now, i am whole

Wish for Mother

As the ocean breeze
Carresses my face,
I remember a gentler time
A kinder place,
Always by my side
Constant and true,
You forgave my indifference
As only a mother can do.
Confidante, companion
Mother, friend,
You've been my inspiration
Time and time again.
As the years pass by
A little more quickly now,
I often sit and wonder
Why, when and how.
How did we acheive
The bond we share today
After so many years
Of having nothing to say?
My friend, indeed,
You are so much more.
I love you Mama
Admire and Adore.
On your very special day
Don't be overwhelmed.
Enjoy your youth,
You are beautiful, my friend.

The Poetress

i spackle the words upon the page
as i would, paint on a portrait
a little dab here, a speckle there
and the form begins to take shape
a masterpiece of ink stained memories
takes form and draws tears
to the surface of my canvass
weaving a web of tender carresses
and bitter embraces
i tempt my victims from the inside
visual effect has no meaning in my endeavor
my words form longlasting hallucinations
that take over your mind and your soul
and you become one with my mindset
we become united
you are mine

Freedom Flight

I shed a tear
and hold my breath
for, I know what lies ahead
my fate, yet to come
This life brings forth the many challenges
that threaten my very existence
and lead me on the journey
that is only mine
Standing alone
on the platform
will you look back as you fly?
Or, will you leave without heavy heart?
My cheeks sting
and my heart aches
but, there is no turning back now
Free flight is my own
and it's time for me
to spread my wings and fly
