Little
White Shoes
Folded and tied in
tissue white
and tucked away out of sight,
the dearest of treasures I could choose,
A pair of sweet white baby shoes.
Long it has been since
I put them there,
Years slipped by and the wrinkled pair
Was added to memories already in store
Little white shoes that my babies wore.
It seems I remember
each gurgle and squeal,
As we wiggled the toe and tugged the heel.
At last they were on and great was my thrill
As they fit the tiny feet of each little girl.
Strong in time, grew
the tiny pink feet
A wandering to go on life's busy street.
But treasured still are the shoes they wore
As they crept and toddled on our humble floor.
Oh, baby shoes, I wish
I could kiss
Again the pink toes of each little miss
And hear again their cries of delight
Over sweet little baby shoes of white.
For a mother's heart
never forgets
Each baby's first pair of white shoelets.
Or the steps they took to break them in
That led to their future wandering!
As years passed by,
far away they did go
Searching for what they did not know
But finding this treasure all their own
As their babies' little white shoes were outgrown!
