Just across the road from the ocean, this gazebo changes its
personality from producing fun, fireworks, music, laughter
from children flying kites in the summer to quiet solitude
and serenity in the winter.  A center of attraction.

("Wooden Tents") in Oak Bluffs, near the harbor

The open air Tabernacle, where a spiritual revival
began in the late 1800's. A ship called "Eagleswing" brought
many of the believers here from the mainland. The Tabernacle
is in the center of the Campgrounds surrounded by circles
of the small houses which the original builders called "wooden
tents".  Originally, they lived in tents for weeks and months
during the meetings just so they could be there.

The UMC at the Tabernacle Grounds. This is still an active church.

This picture and the one below are examples of the Campground
"wooden tents". They are very tiny inside and have from 3 to 4
rooms each. Most of them are for only the summer season
but a few have year round residents.

They are beautifully decorated,  many with antiques from
the era. They end the season with the Lantern Lighting, each
house being hung with many lanterns aflame with glowing
light and all other campground lights are turned off.
It is very beautiful.

THE PINK HOUSE
The favorite of most people among the "wooden tents" around
the Tabernacle at the Campgrounds. Many photos have been taken
of this little house as it seems to captivate all the visitors.

Circuit Avenue, the main "drag" of Oak Bluffs.

Oak Bluffs Harbor, as seen from the Gazebo,  where many
ferries come loaded with visitors to the Vineyard in the
Summer season.

This is the west side of the Campground and shows the
large harbor hotel in the left side of the pic. Just across the road to
the left (out of pic) is the Marina for Oak Bluffs. The water in front
is a small pond that is separated from the campground only by a small
road and is visited regularily by the Swan, Canadian Geese, Mallards and
of course the Seagulls. The sunset from the house side is very beautiful.

Oak Bluffs State Beach - I must introduce you to my new found
friend. He gets very close and feeds from my hand. What a
beautiful creature, he must have a marvelous life.
