To care for our clients we provide transportation, counseling, Bible study, street church, Morning Coffee outreach, literacy tutoring, case management services, and a jobs ministry. Ministry vehicles provide transportation for homeless individuals and Wilmington Dream Center residents to doctor's appointments, detoxification services, rehabilitation centers, etc. We have even flown clients to the Los Angeles Dream Center for discipleship and care.
Mental Health services are provided by our pastors and staff counselors. Pastoral counseling is provided to residents of Wilmington Dream Center. Staff counselors provide mental health services to homeless people throughout the city, as well as to Dream Center residents.
On Tuesday nights residents of Wilmington Dream Center: Women's Transitional Housing have a choice of attending Bible study or a secular self-help group such as AA, NA, etc. At Bible study basic foundations are laid for a Christian life. The principles Jesus taught His followers are set forth to provide stability in the chaotic lives of residents. We are a non-denominational ministry.
On Thursday nights First Fruit Ministries' street church is attended by homeless people, local residents, visiting friends, and Ministry staff. Faith building affirmations are followed by worship, teaching, and prayer. At the close of service we all share a meal and fellowship. Service begins at 8:00pm at Red Cross St. and 4th, behind Mercy House Homeless Shelter.
Our Morning Coffee ministry is temporarily suspended until a new location becomes available for Ministry use. We are looking for a home downtown where we can serve up coffee and study God's Word. If you have a suggestion for us please call 910-612-9437. Thanks!
Staff oftentimes have job opportunities for those who come and can connect those seeking with those who desire to work. Our jobs ministry connects homeless people and Wilmington Dream Center residnets with those who are looking for workers. If you have work to be done please call 910-612-9437.
To increase self-determination it is often important to build new skills. Literacy for Living is a math, GED, and literacy tutoring program offered free to all homeless persons and residents. At intake into Wilmington Dream Center clients note a desire to improve thier skills and are assigned a tutor to work with them in reaching thier goals. In partnership with First Fruit Ministires, Cape Fear Literacy Council provides tutor training, client assessment, and teaching materials. If you would like to be a volunteer tutor please call 910-612-9438.
Case Management services are provided at Wilmington Dream Center and through outreach. Referrals to mainstream services, goals counseling, transportation, and advocacy are provided by all staff. We have also partnered with UNCW’s social work program and have 1-2 students in senior standing who have chosen First Fruit Ministries as the place for their year-long practicum, beginning to reach out in preparation for their careers as social workers.
