patagonian

Genus Cyanoliseus Patagonus

Lifespan: 12 years or more.

Talking Ability: These conures are usually "above fair" when compared to other conures. The Patagonian Conure is the largest of all Conures. They can learn to talk and they bond very well with people, especially if hand raised.

Description: Because of their large size and attractive plumage, the Patagonian Conure is often described as very striking. Their overall coloring is olive green; there is some yellowish tinge on the side of the wings as well as the head. The eye is ringed with a bare white area.

Personality: Often refered to as "Pattie" conures... these birds can make excellent pets if hand-fed and raised well.  They are bigger birds, with a personality similar to the other large counures mixed with mini-macaws. These birds are great for people wanting a bigger parrot, but they don't have a ton of room to accomodate a full-size macaw.

The Lesser Patagonian Conure is the most common of the three subspecies of Patagonian Conure. These Conures are very active. They love to play and climb and chew on toys, making for an entertaining parrot. Their ability to talk is quite good, though they can be very noisy. This should be considered carefully before taking a Patagonian Conure into your home. These parrots may not be suitable for apartment living because of their noise potential.

Patagonian Conures are usually very sweet parrots. Tame Patagonians seem to like toys a lot and will accept nearly anything that can be held, tossed or rubbed up against. Most Patagonians are not bad about chewing but are very clever about taking things apart so may become escape artists. Patagonian conures are ideal pets for those who like excitement. They rarely stand still; they dance, bob, climb, tumble and play for most of the day.
