Someone once described a flock of birds drifting through the Brazilian sky as a beautiful sunset. These were the Sun Conures. Genus Aratinga The Sun Conure can be found naturally in eastern South America, mostly north of the Amazon River. However, because the Conures have such striking beauty, they were bought and sold to Mexico and the Caribbean and became very abundant in those areas as well. The Sun Conures are a beautiful red/orange/yellow over most of the bird. The wings have a slight green on the wings. The younger birds are more green, and their brighter colors appear after several molts. As with all conures, the Sun Conure has the white skin patch around the eye. Sun Conures are loving little birds that are easy to train and thrive on their owners' companionship. The Sun Conure is naturally playful and affectionate, making it especially suited for companionship. |

Conures are not shy birds and will let you know if their needs are not being met. Their loud, shrill call is a tool that they use to bring attention to important situations, and many have been known to become excellent "watch dogs." With a little love, proper training, and socialization, however, Sun Conures make charming companions that are sure to brighten the homes and lives of the people that choose to keep them. |
