June, 2003
June was a good month.
I'm starting to get the hang of this and making some progress.
Since I was going to be
starting on the footboxes, I borrowed an engine lift from Bob in Boca,
and got the engine out of the car. Here's what it looked like when
I got the car. The cleanup was done, but a few parts, and most of
the bolts that I needed are missing.

After talking to a
couple of drivers, I removed the donor rack and swapped it for
an 18:1 manual
steering rack.
Then I started to
work on the footboxes. Passenger side took about a week to
complete. Drivers side took a bit longer. Lots of
drilling and trial fittings before I started to finalize the
install. Even after all that, the last panels are still
not lined up...so a few more holes were needed. |

I also installed the
upper & lower steering shaft, the rag joint eliminator and
finally installed the steering wheel. This was primarily
so I could get a picture of me in the car. It was a nice
sense of accomplishment.
Somehow, it looks
more like a car with the steering wheel installed.

Check out the Russ
Thompson accelerator pedal with matching brake & clutch
pads. It would have been easier to install if I hadn't
already installed the outside panel of the footbox...but that
would have been too easy. |
