It is with a very heavy heart that I wish to tell our horse
family and friends of the passing of Cotton Eye June Delight. Junebug, as she
was lovingly known around the barn, passed away on Tuesday, May 25th, 2004 of
liver failure. She would have been 15 years old next week. We purchased Junebug
in 1994 from Tom and Janice Johnson of Montgomery, Alabama. She was six years
old when we purchased her and we have shown her ever since. She was the 1998
NSSHA English Pleasure World Champion and the 2001 SSHBEA Lite Shod Reserve
World Champion. In the last few years our children have taken to ridding her.
Hunter showed leadline and Juvenile 11 & under with Junebug. Emily also
showed her in leadline this past year. You could always count on Junebug to give
you 110% anytime you rode yet she was as gentle as a fly when our children were
on her back. It was almost as if she knew there were small children on her and
she took wonderful care of them when they rode. She was the ideal spotted saddle
horse. She went from the ring on Saturday night to around the hay field at a
moments notice and never spooked at anything. Junebug had a motor that did not
stop and was a flashy mare. We did not always win the class but we almost always
came out with a ribbon. The thing that many people will remember about her is
her long white tail. She had almost 3 feet of tail on the ground that floated
like a cloud behind her when she was in a show gait. More importantly, Junebug
was a member of our family. She was the very first horse I have ever owned and I
loved her very much. She will be sorely missed. I truly feel as if my heart has
been torn out. You never realize how much these wonderful animals touch your
heart until they are no longer there. She was my first horse. She taught me how
to ride and took care of me when she knew that I didn’t know what I was doing.
She never let me get hurt and she took care of my children the same way. She
gave me so many amazing rides around the many rings she graced. I feel truly
blessed to have had her in life for the last 10 years.
