Knightsend Customization

Batman needs to be changed into a leaping pose.  Pushing off with one
leg with the other leg bent upward.  the left arm will be repositioned to
be reaching for Iron Man and the right arm will be ready to deliver the
KO punch.
I glued up the feet, legs and upper torso of the Knightsend kit and begin playing with the height it needed to be mounted at and the distance it needed to be from Iron Man. Then I began working on the Bat’s pose. It appears that the position of the Bat’s left leg is right on for his leap off of the wall. The right leg however, is going to require one major hip cut and a minor knee cut. The hip cut allows the thigh to be raised and the stance to be more narrow. This requires a lot of time and trimming. Unlike a solid kit I need to trim the leg and glue it around the edges. I trimmed the hip/crotch until the desired position of the leg was achieved. The knee was much easier. I cut a wedge out of the back of the knee, about ¾ of the way through the leg. I left the front of the knee area intact. I then heated the knee, bent it back and CAed it to the leg. That part was easy.
Magic Sculpt was used to cover the gaps and blend/re-sculpt the muscles of the knee and hip.
Here are some pics of the arm modifications that were performed.  the left arm was cut at the elbow and the upper part of the arm was filled with epoxy putty.  The forearm and upper arm were then drilled and an armature wire was inserted.  Magic Sculpt was then used to re-sculpt the missing muscle.
The right arm just needed to be rotated up 90 degrees at the shoulder.  The only problem was that this left a gaping hole in the armpit.  After consulting some reference material (comic books) I filled the armpit with Magic sculpt and sculpted the look of the armor.
Next I primed, filled, sanded, primed, filled, sanded...on the main figure.
Now to the part I've been putting off, the cape thing.  After heating and cutting on these things for an hour I decided to use my band saw to cut them out!  Man these thing are terrible!  The flashing I removed is more than what was in the rest of the kit!
More fun with the cape thing...the position of the individual cape pieces come to a point.  I don't like this for my new pose.  So, I made cuts were the pieces connect to the shoulders so that each one can be moved over and straightened out.
After connecting two of the cape pieces I decided that it did not look quite right.  They were not flowing out from the body enough.  They did not quite fit the action of Batman jumping off the roof.  SO...I made a cut in each piece and inserted a wedge of left-over vinyl.  This made each one push back more like I wanted.  These pics show the progression from the original shape to the modified shape.
This concludes the conversion of the Knightsend kit into the new position.  The rest of the process is straight forward painting.  To keep up with the painting progress please visit my photo gallery.
