What
If
? What if Haitians were mostly concerned about Nation-Prosperity instead of the common self-interest? In 2004 Haiti would have been a major trade partner with the European Economic Community and the United States of America as an outward manifestation of the 1791 revolt. Representation of oppression and colonialism has been untouched because Haitians tend to largely replace the attributes that colonialism represented. In all aspects of Haitian society, the reign of fear and terror has become a way of life. When politicians talk about change, they mean changing the people behind the power and replacing them with another unconcerned group. Keeping the status quo is uniquely for personal satisfaction, greed, power, and control, which are the same attributes of colonialism. What if instead of replicating colonist’s behavior towards slaves, Haitians replicated the zeal in which slaves sought freedom and independence. Organization, integration, pride, and a great sense of participation were crucial to colonialism while slaves were disorganized, un-integrated and deprived of self-importance and that was also crucial to the emancipation of colonialism. Social disorganization is important for Imperialism to gain control over people and Nations. It tends to feed discordance and create subordination. A privileged segment of society is usually used to perform such social disorder and the class that is closer to reach is the one that is paid to perform the task. They create political instability by disagreeing with any proposed or suggested idea and also social disorder follows by the rise of unemployment thus creating manifestation and at worse, guerilla warfare. That kind of social behavior results in a quick condemnation of governmental bodies for non-performance and etc, and etc. How long will it take to remove the dirt that has kept most of us blind for so long? The power struggle will continue and the attitude will have to change. The liberation of Haiti is up to Haitians and must be with the vision that Haitians ought to be freed of colonialism; meaning everything that make Haitians think colonist. The will to eliminate what colonialism has brought upon us has to clear the way for evolution. Haitians ought to remember or understand that they represent a unique society in the Americas. Haiti is the only distinct society in the Atlantic and the only politically black controlled, although the "Invisible 10" have inherited the economical might, while the population seems to have the upper hand. Considering that education has enable Haitians to be constructive, well what has happened to intellectual class? We've seen many in the arena of Haitian politics have we not? The problem is in the attitude and that is the result of colonialism; the disdain towards the masses and the dedication to the bourgeoisie will antagonize the idea of Haitian Nationalism. Nationalism is a magic word for Haitians, which needs to be redefined and revalued. "Thy neighbor, thy community makes thy country". The very essence of all faith is to care for your neighbor and anything less than that is simple hypocrisy. Honestly, that’s all I see everywhere. Structural organization, respect, and discipline are fundamental to success. Big spoken words will not justify one’s intellect. The politics of personalization and self-interest cannot advance in any way even if there was an “allez-mieux” in your life, it would be temporary because you would have been likely to be taken down by the same forces that gave the go you ahead. In other words, stop serving others for their own interests, think of your neighborhood, your community, and your country. "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country". JFK. I have lived in the US and Canada for about 30 years and unless one is integrated into society I do not see how progress can be made. The fact remains that if most Haitians, if not all, were given a better position in Haitian's economics and politics, they would not hesitate to return to Haiti. It is good to see a fellow Haitian making it in the USA or in Canada. The problem, however, is that one successful Haitian has made it abroad but did not make in Haiti. There is always some good from any evil and that successful Haitian contribution to the Haitian economy is a good thing. I don’t think Haitians have succeeded abroad because they are only hard working fellows, honest and skilled workers; they have succeeded because they have evolved within a disciplined and an organized body. Would Haitian in the Diaspora be as successful in Haiti if the environment were identical? What do you think? I think yes, given the definition of “identical”, meaning the same political and social standards. Haitians tend to revert to Haitianism when they return to Haiti. I mean the “peyi’m se pam’ mfe sa’m pito” mentality re-embrace Haitians as soon as the land at the airport. The “laissez- faire” mentality of the Petion’s era is vibrant in the capital and in fact has rapidly spread around the nation. Even the most disciplined Haitians tend to revert to mediocrity a soon as they return to Haiti. Nationalism, I believe, is the most important aspect for the evolution of a country. The feeling of belonging and the pride of citizenship of a particular country determine the future it holds. Haitians, in recent time, have demonstrated the contrary. For a long time, In Haiti and abroad, Haitians have tried to be anything else but Haitians. For survival maybe or embarrassment for sure that conduct has been known to be a dysfunctional behavior in all sector of Haitian society. If Haitians care for Haiti they have an awkward way to demonstrate their love. Organization, integration and participation, pride and a great sense of belonging are fundamental to establish a strong and solid state. Our liberators understood the concept and relied on us to fulfill the accomplishment. We have been diverted by the domination of western civilization and it will likely be so for a while, but that should not prevent the population from planting the seeds of resistance.
