Peeling nails is a horizontal split of the layers of the nail past the free edge, and vertical separation is called splitting nails. The nail cells at the top of the plate are one or two months older than the cells at the bottom of the nail plate, that s why they split at the top and not the bottom. Dehydrated nails are more likely to peel and split at the edges and may break, become more fragile and easily catch on clothing.

Splits that are temporary will eventually grow out past the free edge. If, as the nail continues to grow, the split does also, this is usually a sign of permanent damage to the nail matrix. Women that have worn acrylic or gel nails for more than five years, often develop permanent matrix damage due to improper drilling and prying off of old product. These women are now finding it difficult to keep their natural nails healthy because of a line that continues to split as the nails grow out.

The nail industry has produced several product solutions for treating nail splitting. Two helpful non-damaging enhancement methods are available today. The non-damaging full-cover Prescription Nails enhancement method requires no fill-ins and is soaked off at the salon in heated acetone in ten to fifteen minutes every two weeks. The nails are examined to make sure the nail beds are staying healthy. The second non-damaging enhancement method is Organic Nails. Organic Nails require two-week fill-ins, uses triple-distilled, hypoallergenic surgical glue, and the powder contains herbs, vitamins, proteins and minerals. The 100% organic materials are absorbed into the natural nail beds and are used to repair severely damaged nails. Organic Nails can be used on people that are allergic to acrylic or gels, diabetic, pregnant or undergoing chemotherapy. The system does not require electric drills and it contains biokeratin, calcium and phosphorus, which helps sooth and protect damaged natural nails while stimulating growth. Organic Nails can be used as a natural nail overlay coating or used with tips for added nail length. The Organic Nails overlay coating will help keep nail splits together until it grows past the free edge. Organic enhancements cost more than traditional gels or acrylics but it s worth it to get an enhancement product that repairs nail damage.

For women that prefer natural nail care, the luxury lavender oil-soak manicure provides a treatment that penetrates deeply to moisturize, hydrate and stimulate the production of healthy skin cells. Lavender manicures using crystal files and a clear strengthener containing aloe, calcium and garlic used daily at home will prevent nail splitting. If you re one of the many women that suffers from nail splitting then you need to choose from luxury lavender oil-soak manicures, the (non-damaging) Prescription Nails enhancements or the (nail repairing) Organic Nails enhancements method. You can find these solutions for treating nail splitting at a Therapeutic nail salon staffed by a licensed nail tech and onyxologist.

Read Jeanne's Latest Monthly Article In Chapel Hill News & Views.

Nails Your Way
Jeanne Grace Curtis
5900 Orchard Road
Douglasville GA 30135-4726

Look for the Hand Sign pointing at the gate!
(All the way at the end of Orchard Road)

Click on Map for Printable Copy.

By Appointment Only

Sun-Mon

Closed

Tues-Sat

11am-7pm

770-949-3113

 HOME | About NYW | ARTICLES | SERVICES & PRICES | MAP
