STATE ISSUES:

HB-327:  Setoff Debt Collection Act:  The Jesup Housing Authority supports enacting legislation enabling PHA's in the State to collect outstanding balances from past residents through a setoff in their state tax refund check.  Click here to check the status.

Appointments to Local Housing Authorities:  The Jesup Housing Authority opposes any legislation that would allow the appointment of a maximum of one city official to serve on the board of the local housing authority.  This policy would violate the PHA's Annual Contributions Contract with HUD by creating a conflict of interest within the PHA.  Click here to check the status.

bulletConsolidation/Mergers of PHA's:  The Jesup Housing Authority supports the language of this bill, as it simply clarifies existing language regarding the consolidation or merger of PHA's in Georgia.  Click here to check the status.
bulletHB-260:  Revenue Bonds:  House Bill 260 was introduced on 1/31/07 for the purpose of requiring certain authorities of this state to obtain approval of the governing authority of the county or municipality prior to issuing revenue bonds or spending revenue from such bond issue.  The Jesup Housing Authority opposes the intent of the bill.  Click here to check the status.
bulletHB-30:  Private Enterprise Agreement:  House Bill 30 redefines a private enterprise agreement in the OCGA as it relates to public housing authorities.  The JHA is neutral on this bill.  Click here to check the status of the bill.
bulletSB-94:  Dispossessory Proceedings:  Senate Bill 94 clarifies the process for judgments (writs of possession) by default.  The Jesup Housing Authority supports this clarification.  Click here to check the status of the bill.

NATIONAL ISSUES:

Full Funding of PHA's:  The Jesup Housing Authority supports full funding of public housing authorities in our country at 100% of eligibility according to the Harvard Cost Study.  PHA's are currently funded at 76% of eligibility under current legislation.  Click here to check the status.
