The James E. FIVECOAT Genealogy Home Page

This site is dedicated to the surname FIVECOAT and to how the name came to exist. There are two avenues I hope to explore with these pages stories about the name and genealogy.

STORIES

I really don't know how the name came to be. There are not many people with the last name of Fivecoat. So not very many people have even heard the name. So when ever a Fivecoat introduce themselves to a stranger we probably have experienced the same event:

We say something like, "Hi I'm Jim Fivecoat", and the person we are meeting:

1. Laughs out loud and says "your kidding"

2. Ask: "Are you an Indian (more recently some few say native American)?" and smiles or looks quizzical.

3. Ask: "Were did that name come from?"

These questions frequently lead to a to a story on the possible history of the name. So if any of you out there on the Web are a Fivecoat, or are related to a Fivecoat, or just know some Fivecoat's I invite you to add your Fivecoat name story to the Fivecoat Story Page.  This I hope will be a collection that may lead all of us to the true or at least the most likely series of events that spawned our name.

GENEALOGY

When I checked Switchboard  a few years ago there were only 174 listings of the name Fivecoat occurred in the whole country. There were another 41 that spelled it Fivecoate and another 16 spelling it Fivecoats. I expect that we would not have to go to far back to find some common roots. The genealogy page has a chart of my family and of other Fivecoats who have submitted the information. Hopefully the chart will grow and that common links will begin to appear.

Morris Fivecoat of Wilmington, Kerri Fivecoat-Campbell of Kansas City, and my brother Karl have their family trees on the page now. Visit the Genealogy Page  and see if there is a connection to your branch of Fivecoats.
