Key Verse: I John 2:16:

King James Translation: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Interlinear Translation: “because all that which is in the world, the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the vaunting of life, is not of the Father, but of the world is;”

Strong’s Concordance Translation: “FOR ALL THAT IS IN THE WORLD = orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration, adorning, THE LUST = a longing especially for what is forbidden, concupiscence, desire. OF THE FLESH = flesh as stripped of the skin, i.e. strictly the meat, the body as opposed to the spirit, by implication human nature, a human being as such. THE LUST OF THE EYES = by implication vision, figuratively envy from jealous side-glance, sight. AND THE PRIDE = braggadocio, i.e. by implication self-confidence, boasting, vagrancy, braggart, boaster. OF LIFE = the present state of existence, by implication the means of livelihood, good, living. IS NOT OF THE FATHER = nay, neither, never, no, none, cannot, nothing, without. BUT IS OF THE WORLD = orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration, adorning.
