King James Version: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Interlinear Translation: “If we should confess our sins, faithful he is and righteous, that he may forgive us the sins, and may cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Strong’s Concordance Translation: “IF WE CONFESS = to assent, i.e. covenant, acknowledge, profess, confession is made, give thanks, promise, same said. OUR SINS = offence, sinful. HE IS FAITHFUL = trustworthy, trustful, believing, sure, true. AND JUST = equitable in character or act, by implication innocence, holy, meet, right. TO FORGIVE = to send, an intense form of to go, to send forth, cry, be, let alone, omit, put, send away, remit, suffer, yield up. US OUR SINS = offence, sinful. AND TO CLEANSE US = make clean, purge, purify. FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS = legal injustice properly the quality, the act, wrongfulness of character, life or act, iniquity, unjust, wrong.
