Key verse: Hosea 4:6:

King James Translation: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”

Interlinear Translation: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you the knowledge rejected, I also rejected you from being Priest to me. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I will forget your sons; even I.”

Strong’s Concordance Translation: “MY = of me, of mine, of my. PEOPLE = a people as a congregated unit, specially a tribe, hence troops, or attendants, figuratively a flock, men, nation. ARE DESTROYED = to be dumb or silent, hence to fail or perish, transitive to destroy, cease, cut off, cut down, be brought to silence, be undone utterly. FOR LACK = failure, i.e. nothing, destruction, without, not yet, because not, corruption, ignorant. OF KNOWLEDGE = cunning, unawares wittingly. BECAUSE THOU HAST REJECTED KNOWLEDGE I WILL REJECT THEE = to spurn, to disappear, abhor, cast away off, contemn, despise, disdain, become loathe-some, melt away, refuse, reprobate, utterly vile person. THAT THOU SHALT BE NO PRIEST TO ME = to mediate in religious services, to officiate as a priest, figuratively to put on regalia, deck out, execute the office of, minister in the priests office. SEEING THOU HAS FORGOTTEN = to mislay, i.e. be oblivious of, from want of memory or attention, cause to forget. THE LAW OF THY GOD = a precept or statute, especially the Decalogue or Pentateuch. I WILL ALSO FORGET THY CHILDREN = a son as a builder of the family name, figuratively relationship, subject, nation, quality or condition, whelp, youth, young one.
