King James Translation: “And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
Interlinear Translation: “and descended the Spirit the Holy in a bodily for as a dove upon him, and a voice out of heaven came, saying, Thou art my Son the beloved, in thou I have found delight.”
Strong’s Concordance Translation: “AND THE HOLY = blameless, religious, consecrated, holy one, holy thing. GHOST = a current of of air, i.e. breath, blast or a breeze, vital principal. DESCENDED = come down, get down, go down, step down. IN A BODILY = corporeal, physical, as a sound whole, be whole. SHAPE = a view, form, appearance, fashion, sight. LIKE = as if, about, as it had been, as it were. A DOVE = a pigeon. UPON HIM = superimposition of time, place, order as a relation of distribution, i.e. over, upon, of rest, of direction. AND A VOICE = disclosure, a tone, by implication an address for any purpose. CAME FROM HEAVEN = the idea of elevation, the sky, heaven as the abode of God, by implication happiness, power. WHICH SAID THOU ART MY BELOVED SON = dearly beloved, well beloved, to love in a social or moral sense. IN THEE I AM WELL PLEASED = think good, to think well of, i.e. approve.
