King James Translation: “And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”
Interlinear Translation: “And having risen up he went to father his. But yet he far being distant saw him his father and was moved with compassion, and running fell upon his neck and ardently kissed him.”
Strong’s Concordance Translation: “AND HE AROSE = stand up, arise, lift up, raise up, rise up. AND CAME = accompany, appear, bring, come enter, fall out, go, grow, pass, resort, be set. TO HIS FATHER = parent. BUT WHEN HE WAS A GREAT WAY OFF = at a distance, far off, good way off. HIS FATHER SAW HIM = to know, be aware, behold, consider, have knowledge, perceive, be sure, tell, understand. AND HAD COMPASSION = to have the bowels yearn, i.e. figuratively feel sympathy, to pity, be moved by compassion. AND RAN = to walk or run hastily, have course. AND FELL ON HIS NECK = to embrace with affection or seize, fall into, fall on, fall upon, lie on, press upon. AND KISSED HIM = dear down, to kiss earnestly.
