King James Translation: “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness; for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

Interlinear Translation: “And he said to them, See and keep yourselves from covetousness; for not in the abundance to anyone his life is of that which he possesses.”

Strong’s Concordance Translation: “AND HE SAID UNTO THEM = to speak or say with words or writing, answer, bid, bring word, call, command, grant, say on, speak, tell. TAKE HEED = to stare at, to discern clearly physically or mentally, to attend to, to experience, to appear, behold, perceive, see. AND BEWARE = isolation, to watch, i.e. be on guard, by implication to preserve, obey, avoid, keep self, observe, save. OF COVETOUSNESS = avarice, i.e. by implication fraudulency, extortion, covetous practices, greediness. FOR A MAN’S LIFE CONSISTETH NOT = they are not, not dure for a while, not remaineth. IN THE ABUNDANCE OF THE THINGS = to super abound in quantity or quality, be in excess, be superfluous, to cause to super abound or excel, have more abundance, abundant, be the better, remain over and above. WHICH HE POSSESSTHE = things extant or in hand, i.e. property or possessions, goods, that which one has, substance.
