Key Verse: Luke 16:13:

King James Version: “No servant can serve two masters for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or

else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

Interlinear Translation: “No servant is able tow lords to serve, for either the one he will hate, and the other he

will love; or one he will hold to, and the other he will despise. Ye are unable God to serve and mammon.”

Strong’s Concordance Translation: “NO SERVANT = a fellow resident, i.e. menial domestic, household

servant. CAN SERVE = to be a slave, be in bondage, do service. TWO MASTERS = supremacy, supreme in

authority as controller, God, Lord, Sir. FOR EITHER = particle of distinction between two connected terms,

comparative. HE WILL HATE THE ONE = hatred, to detest especially to persecute, by extension to love less,

hateful. AND LOVE THE OTHER = to love in a social or moral sense, beloved, to be a friend, fond of an

individual, have affection for denoting personal attachment, a matter of sentiment or feeling for, to kiss as a

mark tenderness. OR ELSE HE WILL HOLD TO THE ONE = to hold oneself opposite, to care for, hold fast,

support. AND DESPISE THE OTHER = opinion down, to think against, i.e. disesteem. YE CANNOT SERVE

= to be a slave to, be in bondage, no service. GOD AND MAMMON = confidence, i.e. wealth, personified,

mammonas, i.e. avarice deified.
