Key Verse: I John 4:1:

King James Translation: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

Interlinear Translation: “Beloved, not every spirit believe, but prove the spirits, if of God they are; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

Strong’s Concordance Translation: “BELOVED = dearly beloved, well beloved, dear, to love in a social or moral sense. BELIEVE NOT = not to have faith in, on, upon or with respect to a person or thing, i.e. no credit, not commit to trust, not put in trust with. EVERY = all, any, every, the whole, all manner of, thoroughly, whatsoever, whosoever. SPIRIT = current of air, i.e. breath, blast, breeze. BUT TRY THE SPIRITS = to test, by implication to approve, allow, discern, examine, prove. WHETHER THEY ARE OF GOD = a primary particle of conditionality, if, forasmuch as. BECAUSE = as concerning that, as though, why. MANY = much variety, much, often, abundant, common, plenteous. FALSE PROPHET = a spurious prophet, i.e. pretended foreteller or religious pretender. ARE GONE OUT = to issue, come forth, go abroad, proceed forth, spread abroad, origin come. INTO = to or into indicating the point reached or entered of place, time, purpose or result, among. THE WORLD = orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration, including the inhabitants, to tend, take care of, bring, receive.
