King James Translation: “For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him; and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.”

Interlinear Translation: “For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus who had struck him, and said, For the gods of the kings of Aram are helping them, to them will I sacrifice that they help me; but they were to him to cause him to stumble, and all Israel.”

Strong’s Concordance Translation: “FOR HE SACRIFICED to slaughter, kill, slay. UNTO THE GODS OF DAMASCUS = to be elevated, a citadel from its height, castle, palace. WHICH SMOTE HIM = to strike, beat, cast forth, give wounds, punish, smite, strike, give stripes, wound. AND HE SAID BECAUSE THE GODS OF THE KINGS OF SYRIA = the highland, to be elevated, a citadel from its height, castle, palace. HELP THEM = to surround, protect, aid, succour. TO THEM WILL I SACRIFICE THAT THEY HELP ME = to slaughter, kill, slay. BUT THEY WERE THE RUIN OF HIM AND OF ALL ISRAEL = (stumble) to totter, waver, falter through weakness of legs, especially the ankle, bereave, cast down, be decayed, cause to fall, feeble, be ruined, be overthrown, be weak.
