Key Verse: II Corinthians 7:1:

King James Translation: “Having therefore these promises dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

Interlinear Translation: “These therefore having promises, beloved, we should cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in fear of God.”

Strong’s Concordance Translation: “HAVING = hold, possession, ability, contiguity, relation, condition. THEREFORE = certainly, accordingly, so, truly, but now then, so likewise then, verily, wherefore. THESE PROMISES = an announcement for information, assent or pledge, especially a divine assurance of good, message. DEARLY BELOVED = well beloved, dear. LET US CLEANSE = make clean, purge, purify. OURSELVES = yourselves, thyself, myself, alone, herself, himself, one to another, of them, of us, themselves, your own conceits. FROM ALL FILTHINESS = a stain, i.e. figuratively immorality, to soil i.e. figuratively defile. OF THE FLESH = flesh as stripped of the skin, the meat as opposed to the soul or spirit, or as the symbol of what is external, or as the means of kindred, or by implication human nature with its frailties physical or morally and passions, or a human being as such, carnally minded, fleshly. AND SPIRIT = a current of air, breath, blast or a breeze, vital principle. PERFECTING = to fulfill further or completely, execute, by implication to terminate, undergo, accomplish, do, finish, make perfect, performance. HOLINESS = sacredness, i.e. properly the quality. IN THE FEAR OF GOD = to be put in fear, alarm or fright, be afraid, terror.
