“King James Translation: “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
Interlinear Translation: “Iron on iron sharpens; and a man sharpens face his’ friends.”
Strong’s Concordance Translation: “IRON = iron as cutting, by extension an iron implement, ax head. SHARPENETH IRON = to be or cause to be sharp, figuratively to be severe, be fierce, sharpen. SO A MAN SHARPENETH THE COUNTENANCE = the face as the part that turns, edge, employ, face, favour, fear of, forefront. OF HIS FRIEND = an associate more or less close, brother, companion, fellow, husband, lover, neighbor, another.
