If it's Masters Saturday, there must be some rain in the area. Form held again in 2002, as a brief but heavy thunderstorm passed over Obringer National in the morning. But as tournament time arrived, so did the blue skies, though this year's event was the coolest in history. The edibles were hotter than ever, however, and coupled with many cold beers and the occasional popsicle, all contestants were left fat and happy, whether they took home any hardware or not. Below we see those whose exploits did lead to tokens of accomplishment.
The 2002 Masters produced a first-time champion, John Wood, seen here receiving the coveted green jacket from 2001 champion, Bruce Mason. At right, Bruce initiates John into "the Club".
Four-time Masters Champion, Bruce Mason lost a battle early in the day with several 'car bombs' and did not finish with any hardware in the 2002 event. (The first time in Masters' history that Mr. Mason did not take home a trophy.)
The final four included rookie, Jim Smith, finishing in 4th place, along with veterans Brian Funaki (3rd place), Rob Dembinski (Runner-up), and John Wood (Champion).
The 2002 event boasted an additional two places for hardware awards, as well as new Masters medals for the top eight players. A film mishap prevented the posting of some better group shots.

A few scenes from the day....

As always, the swingset was a hot locale for the younger set. And, of course, random lightsabor duals sprouted up here and there. (Shown below, Jonathan F. and Jack O. We have conflicting stories about who actually won -- if there can be a winner!)
