June 1980 PANOTRAGUIS is formed.
In early 1981 the band name is changed to PAX.

Then soon after, THE FLAMEOUTS

1981 Timeline:

 

February 8 - Larry Diaz meets Mikel Sauve at El Camino College, Torrance, California.
February through May - Larry visits "The Maus Factory" Mikel's El Segundo home & studio
several times during this period to see the band rehearse.

 

March - The band reforms after few months off

minus PANOTRAGUIS guitar player John Wilder.
 

April - rehearsal of 4 new songs (taped) including a rare version of Africa written by Mikel.
Bill & Rob's
Birds of September & Bill & Mikel's Murder are added to the set.
April 28 - rehearsal (taped)
Most week day rehearsals where from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
Leaving nights open for other bands to rehearse including,
ILL WILL and BLACK FLAG.
 

May - The band at this time is being managed by Linda Robertson (Nite-Life Productions).
May 7 - PAX at the Cathay de Grande, Hollywood w/The Alcoholics (taped)
Late May - Mikel changes the name of the band to THE FLAMEOUTS.

Work on a demo tape at a North Hollywood recording studio begins.

Songs include: Birds Of September, Glass Shards, Murder, and What's What!
May 22 - Larry Diaz (acoustic guitar/vocals) joins the band after being voted in.
Just A Car and a cover song, Soldier Of Love are added to the set.

May 25 - rehearsal (taped)
May 28 - rehearsal

Early June - Radichoke Anthem is replaced by a song titled Shoot!
Larry's
What Are You Going To Do? is added to the set.
1960's cover songs are added when needed, including:
I Saw Her Standing There, Boys, Runaway, I Can't Explain,
Who'll Be The Next In Line, Secret Agent Man.
July 1- The Cuckoo's Nest, Costa Mesa

June 4 - rehearsal (taped)
June 5 - El Segundo Teen Center (taped)
June 6 - band photos taken by Jesse Glover starting at 6:00 am,
outside the Xerox corporate headquarters building, North Redondo Beach, CA
then back to the studio in North Hollywood, for more vocal over dubs on the demo tape (taped)
June 7 - work on the demo tape is completed.
June 10 - Cathay de Grande, Hollywood w/Otis Jenkins
June 18 - Party at Maus with a band performance.

June 25 - Bla Bla Cafe, North Hollywood, 1.00 am June 26 set
June 26 - rehearsal at the El Segundo Teen Center (taped)
June 30 - Cathay de Grande w/Sheiks Of Shake (taped)
 

July 1 - Cuckoo's Nest, Costa Mesa (taped)
July 4 - Wilson Park Pavillion, Torrance. Flameouts appearance canceled, back at Maus, to jam (taped)
July 5 - Club 88, West L.A. Robs amplifier breaks down.
July 14 - Mikel, Mark, Larry & Sal appear on KXLU 88.9 FM radio
to promote their up coming Cathay de Grande show.
July 15 - 2 sets at Cathay de Grande, w/the Unknowns
July 18 - Larry changes to electric guitar.
July 23 - Blue Lagoon Saloon, Marina del Rey w/The Busters & Kilgore Trout

 

August - Bill & Rob's, Three Sided Love & the cover

Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby is added to the set.
August 4 - Madame Wong's West, Santa Monica
August 5 - H.J's, North Hollywood
August 6 - The Cuckoo's Nest, Costa Mesa, w/Slinger.

Performing with Slinger, band member
John Roulette later joins THE FLAMEOUTS in June 1982.
Mid August - El Segundo Teen Center show with a few hecklers in the audience

that cause problems later at Maus, Bill is hit just under his eye

with a beer bottle which requires stitches.
 

September 4 - Mikel's birthday

November - Two songs start to develop, Killing Not A Living & Brave New Wave
both instrumentals starting from ideas by Larry.
Let Me In is added to the set.

November 15 - at Maus, audition for the Argyle girls school prom. (taped)
November 18 - Larry & Sal start to write Pretty Eyes Tell Lies Too,
more work on this song latter this day at Maus with Mikel(taped),

That evening: Rolling Stones pay per view concert party at Maus.

November 25 - rehearsal (taped)
 

December - Demo of Killing Not a Living
December 1 - Demo made of Brave New Wave
